Lightweighting Technologies for Heavy Trucks

Automotive industry is focusing on fuel efficiency, electrification, low maintenance, connectivity and safety for new cars. In the following years, we will see more electrical, autonomous and connected cars on the roads. In these conditions, lightweighting will be more critical together with safety critical sensor technologies. Collaborative work between Kordsa and Ford Otosan is focusing on lightweighting technologies in Heavy Duty Vehicle Chassis System including structural health monitoring systems. In this research, e-glass prepreg has been developed for PCM process, leafspring of a heavy duty vehicle has been designed for over 16tons truck and structural health monitoring systems have been used for process optimization, part qualification and online health monitoring purposes.
