Keynote Construction Composites Circle: Architecture As The “Third Skin”

Architecture has often been described as a kind of “third skin” – over our biological one and our clothing – but we have to admit that this skin has often been rigid and uncompromising. In the new media age, with better data and information, architecture can be enriched through advanced & composites materials and Internet-of-Things technologies, to become a more flexible third skin, adapting and molding itself more directly to our needs.
Carlo Ratti will address these issues from a critical point of view through projects by the Senseable City Laboratory, a research initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the design office Carlo Ratti Associati.
