Mechanical Characterization of Composite Structures with Adhesive Joints

The presentation introduces results achieved by the R&D team of eCon Engineering, Hungary. A new, innovative concept to present derives the laminate stiffness parameters in one step directly from the raw test data of multidirectional (MD) composite specimens instead of the conventional way that extrapolates the stiffness data estimated from unidirectional (UD) tests to MD composites. In addition, the new method assesses the statistical variation of these parameters as well. Failure modes of sandwich structures are also investigated and furthermore the modeling technique of the adhesive joints of composites are analyzed. Case studies of autobus, automobile and aircraft industry will be presented.
